Bassline Junkie: African hip hop radio February 2013

basslinejunkie

The bassline junkies are back in the studio. Amal returned from a sabbatical stay in Berlin (Germany) and J4 spent a few weeks in Kenya and Tanzania. After the hiatus, their playlist is full of fresh tunes from across the continent, including posse cuts from Kenya (Xtatic) and Nigeria (XP as well as Ice Prince’s Aboki remix), a Ghana – Nigeria connection between Sarkodie and Viviane, a new single by S3 from eastern Congo and the new single by Awadi (PBS).

Amal and J4 have been checking out some other bassline music during the holidays so they play a bit of deep house from SA and Angola as well as acoustic soul from Aar Maanta and Laura Mvula and even ‘Bassline Junkie’, a track by UK’s grime legend Dizzy Raskal (who’s repping Nigeria and Ghana by birth) – make sure you check out his video at the bottom of this post.

Here’s the show, recorded live at Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio which is situated in the Red Light district. Play it loud and if you’re in the northern hemisphere, forget about the snow outside…
